Welcome to Year 3! Year 3 is the first class in the Junior department of the school and this means a move to a different side of the school building as well as the Junior playground. In this year the children learn about the Ancient Egyptians, the Stone Age to the Iron Age and the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain. The children create information booklets, PowerPoints and take part in many drama activities to bring these topics to life. They also go on Educational Visits connected to our studies, including the British Museum, and they experience interactive workshops into school.
Year 3 is a very important year in our pupils’ faith development as in this year they prepare to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. The school staff work closely with our parishes to prepare the children using the ’I Belong’ scheme. Parents are also invited to a number of evening meetings throughout the year to explore the sacraments and ways in which they can support their children. The children receive their First Holy Communion in their own parishes in the Summer Term and they all come together for a special Mass in school afterwards to celebrate.
Richmond Music Trust provides singing tuition in Year 3. The children are taught by a professionally trained singer and they create their own song which they perform to the other children.
When asked what their best memories of Year 3 were, one pupil said, ‘I really enjoyed visiting the British Museum because we got to see real things that we had learned about in class.’
