Welcome to Year 5

Welcome to Year 5! In Year 5 the curriculum covers three exciting themes; the Tudors, Natural Disasters and the Vikings, all enriched by a range of carefully selected class texts such as ‘Treason’, ‘Floodland’ and ‘Skellig’. Through cross-curricular planning, children develop their knowledge of these themes through all areas of learning including History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology and Computing.

The highlight of the year for many is our 4 day residential visit to the Isle of Wight. A variety of activities extend the children’s understanding of geology, ecology, history and geography while encouraging the children’s independence in the wonderful surroundings of the island. As well as this, the children’s studies benefit from a range of visits during the year including Hampton Court, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.

When asked what their best memories of Year 5 were, a pupil said ‘I loved the Isle of Wight; best trip so far! We went to the beach, the zoo, Dinosaur Isle – and the sweet shop. I also loved the hotel!’. Another pupil said ‘I really enjoyed learning about the Tudors – we went to Hampton Court. I also liked painting portraits of ourselves in the Tudor style’.
