Our main topics in Year 4 are The Romans, Ancient Greeks and The Anglo Saxons. Here the children learn about life in these times, focusing on religion, beliefs, inventions, famous people, everyday life, battles, empires and any additional information they find along the way! The children carry out research projects on each of the topics and create PowerPoints and flipbooks to present their findings. These projects are very much inquiry based and the children are encouraged to direct their own learning.
In Geography we study Rivers in the Spring term which links in with the residential trip to Sayers Croft. This educational visit is often cited as the favourite school trip by Year 6 students upon finishing their time at St Elizabeth’s. In Design and Technology the children partake in the design and construction of money containers. This activity builds on the sewing skills that the children acquired in Key Stage 1. They also make their own healthy savoury snack linked to science and healthy eating.
