Some pupils in Y4 – Y6 had a fantastic opportunity this week to visit Lord’s Cricket Ground as part of a Cricket Engagement Day. This was a unique opportunity for children who are showing a real interest in cricket. Also this week, St Elizabeth’s took part in the Richmond Borough Sports event and came second in the Medium Sized Schools category with some fantastic individual and group performances. With 600 children competing in this competition, this is really an amazing achievement. Many congratulations to all our athletes!
On Thursday, Y2K prepared a lovely assembly about ‘Thanksgiving’ and they showed us the importance of giving thanks to people that help us. The children spoke beautifully, thank you Y2K.
We are preparing for our School Sponsored Walk around Richmond Park next Tuesday, 11th June, leaving school promptly at 9:00 a.m. We still do need a number of parent helpers to accompany the children to ensure we have enough walkers with each class. Please do let school know by Monday if you are able to help us on the walk by returning the reply slip on the letter or contacting the school office. The more the merrier – younger siblings in pushchairs are welcome too. Children are reminded to come to school in their PE kit on Tuesday, with trainers, with a water bottle. We kindly ask that sponsorship monies are sent into school soon after the walk, and by Monday 24th June. We are greatly appreciative of sponsorship donations to school which helps us tremendously to fund resources for class projects across the whole school. Thank you.
Next week is ‘Walk to School Week’ and our Junior Travel Officers and the ‘Green Team’ talked to the children about this in assembly today. This is a national campaign to encourage all children to make their journey to and from school in one of the following ways: walking, cycling (with an adult), scooting, bus, ‘Park and Stride’ (from Sainsbury’s or Pembroke Lodge) or car share. For each day of next week, we ask as many children as possible to use alternative methods of transport other than the car in the aim that we encourage the adoption of new methods of transport. There will be class activities and rewards for all non-car journeys to school and children really enjoy the incentives and recognition. Please note, only children in Y5 and Y6 are allowed to travel to and from school unaccompanied with parental permission.
This year we are combining ‘Walk to School Week’ with ‘Green Week’ and our school focus is on air quality. We have set up three air quality testing stations around the school and the Y5 children will be monitoring these over the next few weeks. The Green Team are also going to be joining the Richmond Borough campaign to discourage ‘idling’ cars which is when stationary cars keep their engines running. Our Green Team will be sending home more details about this next week.
As part of Walk to School Week, for pupils in KS1 (Reception – Y2) please take a photo of your child with a teddy bear on their way to school using a non-car method of transport and send this in by Friday that week.
For pupils in KS2 (Y3 – Y6), please take a photo of your child (this can be with friends or siblings) on their way to school using a non-car method of transport and send this in by Friday that week.
There will be a prize for the class with the most photos! We appreciate your effort and support with this important initiative as we promote healthier and active travel for our children.
