Weekly Update 10th March 2023

Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...

Dear Parents and Carers,

Book Week and Arts Week

We have had a wonderful Book Week and Arts Week! The theme of the week has been ‘Books bring us together’ and this week has certainly brought a buzz of creativity to the whole school.

There have been many highlights! On Wednesday our visiting author Smriti Halls shared her enthusiasm for writing with the children and encouraged them to develop their own writing styles.

Our artist in residence for the week, Lucy Evetts has led workshops with all classes to develop their skills of felting.

It was lovely to welcome parents to share stories in their own languages during school assemblies and in classes. Thank you very much to all the parents who offered to do this.

And the grand finale of the week was Book Character Day. It was fantastic to see all the children and staff dressed as book characters in assembly today. Thank you, parents and carers, for supporting the children in this.

Y3 Visit to Chiltern Open Air Museum

Y3 children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Chiltern Open Air Museum where they experienced life in the Iron and Bronze Age first-hand. Kit, Arietta and Emily-Boo said:

“We went into an Iron Age roundhouse where we all ground up wheat to make bread and stirred milk to make butter. We then put the food in a hole in the ground to keep it cold. The highlight was being able to touch the artefacts and feel the animal skins in the house.” They rated the visit 10/10!

Sports Update from Mr Sagar

This week St Elizabeth's took two Y6 teams to the Borough Dodgeball Competition at Twickenham School. This is a fast paced and exciting game, where children are encouraged to throw a ball at each other! Our teams enjoyed the chance to play dodgeball competitively against other schools and represented us very well.

To celebrate International Women's Day, girls from years 5 and 6 took over the astroturf at lunch break, for an exciting game of football. The girls showcased the skills they have been developing this term, in front of a small crowd of supporters. A fun time was had by all.

We are continuing our Lenten running and walking challenge and we would encourage children to do this at home if possible. Please do upload photos of your child or family running or walking outside of school onto Google Classroom and we can share these in school.

St Patrick’s Day

On Friday 17th March Mr Askin will be leading an assembly about St Patrick. A number of children will be taking part and if your child would like to wear something green on this day they are very welcome.

Parking Issues

We have received a number of reports this week about parents stopping and parking on the zigzags at the back gate of the school on Lower Grove Road. Zigzags are placed outside all schools to keep children safe. Choosing to park on the zigzags or moving the cones that have been placed to reinforce the safety area puts children at risk. We ask all parents and carers to park safely and would recommend avoiding Lower Grove Road as there are very few parking spaces available. Please consider parking further away and walking the last few minutes to school. Thank you.
