Dear Parents and Carers,
This week in school
PTA Bingo
The Bingo was a great success yesterday evening and a lot of fun was had by all! Huge thanks go to the Y4 parents for organising the event: to Mr George-Hilley and Mrs Taylor for being the Bingo callers and to the parents who prepared the delicious food and desserts.
Harvest Mass
Yesterday we held our Harvest Mass which was celebrated by Fr Peter Andrews with our Y4 children leading the readings and prayers. It was lovely to have the Nursery and Reception children join us by bringing their Harvest gifts and home-made bread rolls!
During Mass some of our Y1 children helped Fr Peter demonstrate how Jesus asks us to share what we have to make sure that everyone in our world has enough to eat. Thank you to all of you for the donations of food and essential items that will be donated to Richmond Foodbank and Greville House.
Black History Month Assembly
Black History Month is a time to explore and celebrate Black history, heritage and culture. In assembly today children from each class shared the research that they had carried out into the life of a number of inspirational Black people. We will be continuing this focus next week when Freshwater Theatre Company will be leading workshops for Reception class on ‘A Carnival of Stories’, for KS1 on Mary Seacole and for KS2 on Black British History Makers. For more information about Black History Month you can visit https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/grownups/black-history-month-articles-from-bbc
Rosary bead making in Y3
Thank you to the Y3 parents for helping the children make their own Rosary beads today. The children will use these in school to pray the Rosary as we continue through October, the month of the Rosary. They will then be blessed in our Advent Mass.
Sports Update from Mr Sagar and Mrs Knowles
The children have had a very busy week of sport and activity in school. On Tuesday morning, a team of Year 3 boys attended a Football Festival at Rocks Lane. The boys had a great time representing the school, testing out their skills and practising their teamwork. They played really well as a team, winning several games and scoring some great goals.
Tuesday afternoon saw the Y5/6 Boys Football Team host St Richard's. The game was played at great pace and the boys weathered several early attacks before opening the scoring. Their strong defensive performance provided the base for some swift attacking passing. The positive passing game saw St Elizabeth's to a comfortable victory. Well done, boys!
The Borough Tag Rugby Tournament was hosted by St Mary's University at their Teddington Lock Campus on Thursday. Over 35 schools from across the borough took part and St Elizabeth's were drawn against some large schools with some formidable teams. Undeterred, St Elizabeth's defended well with some amazing tagging and swift attacks, and were a credit to the school. Over 8 games the children scored some wonderful tries and achieved some good results.
Finally, this week was National Cycle to School Week and we were pleased to see a greater number of scooters and bikes in the racks at school. Riding to school has great health and environmental benefits. By coincidence, our cycling parents have just announced the details of next year's cycling fundraiser. Please see the poster on the front gate and sign up. The route is Richmond to Roubaix on the 8th-10th May.
Next week in school
Y6 World War II Day
On Tuesday 21st October Y6 children will be having a World War II Day. They will come to school dressed as evacuees and will be taking part in a visit to Richmond Museum as well as a dance workshop in school where they will learn to jive.
Pupil Chaplains’ Prayer Packets
Please look out for the email next week, inviting you to buy a ‘Prayer Packet’. Our Pupil Chaplains have created these special Prayer Packets which include a number of items which reflect how we pray in school and encourage families to pray together at home.
