Dear Parents and Carers,

Well done everyone for coping with the heat this week!  The temperature looks to be cooler next week and so thankfully we should all be back to our normal routine on Monday.

Archbishop John Wilson’s Visit

It was a priviledge to welcome Archbishop John to school last week to bless our new chapel.  He visited the children in the classes and joined us for refreshments after the blessing.  We were delighted to receive the following message from the Archbishop’s Personal Secretary this week:

“It truly was a delightful occasion and a pleasure to spend time with everyone at the school. The Archbishop greatly appreciated the warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the community. We are sincerely grateful for all your efforts in making the visit such a memorable experience.”

Our new chapel is a really beautiful space for prayer and reflection for use by our whole community.  Its creation was a real team effort and we would like to thank the following people for their help: Mrs Frosdick for designing the chapel, Mr Frosdick for the electrical work, Mr Hillary for donating the ceiling lights, Mr Jones for carpentry, Mrs Shum for painting the stained glass with Y6 pupils and Mr and Mrs Ronfini for painting.

The Pupil Chaplains wrote to Archbishop John to invite him to bless our chapel.  They took great pride in telling him about their work when he visited.

Thank you to our PTA and all the parents who helped us to raise the funds last year to create the chapel!  We could not have done this without all of your support of our PTA.

Y1 Visit to Kew Gardens

Y1 had a wonderful day at Kew Gardens, where they took part in the exciting Plant Hunters activity. The children learnt lots about different plants and their parts while exploring the gardens. 

Y3 Visit to Richmond Museum

Y3 had an exciting time at Richmond Museum where they solved a Bronze Age Murder Mystery.  Pretending to be archeaologists, they sifted through sand to find clues to work out what had happened to the skeleton they found! 

Battle of the Books Success!

Yesterday, a team of eight Y4 students participated in the annual Richmond Borough KS2 Battle of the Books competition.

Since January, the team has been working hard reading six books and preparing to show their knowledge through quizzing and artwork.

Well done to Annabelle, Bernard, Emma, Emmeline, Dylan, Gael, Josie and Kelly and to Mrs Briggs for preparing the team!  The team came first in the quiz round and were second overall out of twelve schools!  

Sports Update from Mr Sagar and Mrs Knowles

On Monday, a group of Y6 girls took part in a tag rugby tournament at Heathfield Junior School. The team braved the rising temperatures to play 5 games against other primary schools.

They showed fantastic teamwork, support and individual skills to score some great tries and defend strongly. The girls were wonderful ambassadors for our school values and were delighted that their performances earned them third place overall. Many thanks to Mrs Mulry for assisting with transport and organisation on the day. 

Y4 and Y5 Visit to the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden

Our Y4 and Y5 children had a fascinating visit to the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden this week.  They learnt about how the mosque is used for prayer and community events and they were impressed by the beauty and size of the building which is the largest mosque in Western Europe.

The children also learnt that the Qur’an is the holy book for Muslims which guides them in their lives.  They learnt that the motto of the community ‘Love for all. Hatred for none’ promotes peace and mutual respect for all.

The Y5 children shared what they had learnt in today’s assembly and all classes will have a focus on Islam in their RE lessons next week.  Thank you to the volunteers at the mosque for welcoming us so warmly.

Sports Days

Next week we have our KS1 and KS2 Sports Days.  The KS1 Sports Day takes place at school on the astro-pitch from 9:30am to 10:30am on Wednesday 1^st July and the KS2 Sports Day takes place on Christ’s School field from 9:30am to 11:30am on Friday 3^rd July.  Parents are invited to attend.  Please look out for the separate Arbor mail which will be sent out with information about the Sports Days.

PTA BBQ Friday 3^rd July

Only one week to go until the PTA BBQ, the last fundraiser of the year!  Please do join us for an evening of great food, good company and entertainment from DJ Stuart – with a little football too!

Please can parents ensure that their children do not use their mobile phones while on the school site and note that siblings are not able to bring friends or other past pupils who are no longer siblings with them.  Thank you for your co-operation with this.
