Dear Parents and Carers,

We have been experiencing some difficulties this week with our emails.  This is a global issue where emails sent from LGfL email addresses to Gmail addresses have been going into recipients’ spam folders.  We have been assured that this issue is being solved, but please do keep checking your spam folders to see if you have missed any communications from school.

This week in school

All of our Reception children have now joined us and they have made a brilliant start to the school.  Next week the Reception children will meet their Y6 Buddy who will sit with them when they start coming to whole school assemblies.  Y6 can’t wait to meet their Reception Buddies!

Canon John’s visit

We welcomed Canon John from St Winefride’s into school this week.  He visited all the classes and met some of our new Y6 Pupil Chaplains and Mini Vinnies who are just beginning their new roles.

Mini Vinnies’ Macmillan Cake Sale – Thursday 24^th September

In assembly today, the Mini Vinnies introduced themselves. They are a group of Pupil Chaplains who are part of the youth section of the St Vincent de Paul Society. Their role is to examine the need in our community, reflect on the gospel and support those in need.

They are inviting the whole school to put faith into action through a cake sale to support Macmillan Cancer Support on Thursday 24 September. They have asked Y5 and Y6 children to provide the cakes and bakes and everyone should bring in £1 or £2 to buy a cake after school. Please come along to support!

New playground toys

The children have been excited to see the new toys arriving at playtimes. These have been provided by the PTA who also funded the repairs to our log swing and balance logs in the outdoor gym area. 

We would not be able to fund these repairs or buy new equipment without the hard work of our PTA or without your support of our school events, so on behalf of the children, thank you very much!

Bo our school dog returns

Bo, the school dog popped in for a quick visit today after a long break over summer.  She visited all classes from Y1 to Y6 and spread a little joy for a Friday afternoon. For parents in Reception, please do let school know if your child has any concerns about dogs and we will adapt Bo’s visits accordingly.

Fr Tom Scannell

We were very sad to hear that Fr Tom Scannell who was the parish priest at St Winefride’s Church in Kew died last week.  Fr Tom was a dedicated governor at St Elizabeth’s for many years and a great supporter and friend of our school.  His funeral will be held on Monday 28^th September at 12:30pm at St Winefride’s Church.

Extra-curricular clubs update

Our extra-curricular clubs started this week and it has been fantastic to see so many children taking part.  We review our clubs offer regularly and this term we are pleased to introduce Judo Club on Tuesdays after school. 

Our running club welcomes children in KS2 to join them on Friday mornings from 8 a.m. for a before-school run in Richmond Park.  You don’t need to be an experienced runner to take part.  There is a slower paced group for those who are new to running or who prefer to take it easy.

Next week in school

The Class Information Sessions continue next week. These sessions are led by your child’s class teacher and are an opportunity to hear what your child will learn this year and how you can help them at home. They begin at 9:00am and last approximately 45 minutes.

Attendance this week

Congratulations to Y4 for having the highest attendance at an amazing 99.6% closely followed by Y6 at 99.2% - well above our school target of 97%.

Well done too to all the children in Y3 for excellent attendance with all children arriving in school before the register was taken this week.
