Dear Parents and Carers,
We have come to the end of another productive and successful term and the Easter holiday is here! Do read on to hear about our activities this week and the final stages of our Lenten Journey in school.
This week in school
Gospel Assembly – Jesus washes his disciples’ feet
We have been focussing on the events of Holy Week in our assemblies and RE lessons this week.
In Tuesday’s Celebration of the Word, our Pupil Chaplains re-enacted Jesus washing his disciples’ feet at the Last Supper. The children shared how Jesus gave us this example to serve one another with humility and put others’ needs first.
Stations of the Cross
Yesterday Y5 led the whole school in the Stations of the Cross service. This was a beautiful and moving service which helped us to focus on the events of Good Friday. The Y5 children encouraged us to ‘journey with Jesus’, stopping for reflection and prayer at each station with the liturgical band leading the music.
The service was followed by individual Confessions for our Y5 and Y6 pupils and we would like to thank Monsignor Bill, Father George and Father Peter for being with us for these. Please do visit your parish websites for details of Holy Week and Easter Masses.
Rose Theatre Singing Festival
Congratulations to the Junior Choir who took part in the Rose Theatre Singing Festival this week. The choir performed with other local schools in front of a packed audience and both children and parents thoroughly enjoyed the show.
New School Council
Our newly elected school councillors were introduced in assembly this week and were presented with their badges, notebooks and gold pencils. Their role is to represent their classmates in school improvement projects. Mrs Compton, who leads the council is already impressed with their enthusiasm and commitment and is looking forward to working with them this year.
Sports Update from Mr Sagar and Mrs Knowles
The concluding fixture of the term was a match for members of the Cricket Club in beautiful spring sunshine against a team from St Osmund's. St Elizabeth's batted first with every pair playing some excellent shots and the innings finished with a terrific 6 from captain Ujaan. The children then showcased their bowling and fielding skills, with Ian and Bernard leading the way and Simon taking a fantastic catch. The game was very tight and played in good spirit with St Osmund's winning by a small margin. Well done to all the players! We would like to thank Jack from NSSport for arranging and umpiring the fixture and would love to invite more budding cricketers to join the club next term.
Lent Charity Update - Non-uniform and Crazy Hair Day
Thank you for your generous support of our Lenten Charity, the Catholic Children’s Society. Through our collection boxes, the Sponsored Spell, Passion Play, and today’s non-uniform day we have raised over £775. All of this money goes directly to helping families in crisis in the London area and shows our children how they can help others through their actions.
Foodbank Donation
Thank you, too, for all the food donations to the Foodbank. Our pupil chaplains helped to load the bags into the van from the Vineyard Community who were extremely thankful for the large amount of donated food.
