Weekly Update 22nd July 2025

Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...

Dear Parents and Carers,

The holidays are here and this final Weekly Update of the year is full of photographs of our end of term activities.  We hope you enjoy them!

Thank you!

On behalf of the staff, I would like to thank you all for your support of your child’s education this school year.  Your continued commitment to our school activities enables us to create wonderful experiences for our pupils and it is greatly appreciated.

I would also like to thank our school staff for the tremendous job that they have done this year.  In every role across the school, they make our school a joyful place to work, play and learn.  Thank you very much for all the kind gifts, cards and messages you have sent into school – they are much appreciated.

Goodbye to Y6

We say goodbye to our Y6 children today as they move on to their secondary schools in September.  They have been a fantastic class, full of fun and enthusiasm.  They have been wonderful Reception Buddies, class monitors and Pupil Chaplains and they have worked very hard all year.  We wish them all the very best in their new schools and we look forward to hearing all about their achievements in the future.

Our Y6 led the prayers and readings at our leavers’ Mass yesterday.  Thank you to Fr Peter for celebrating Mass for us and to our Schola choir and Liturgy band for leading the music.

This morning we held the Governors’ Awards Ceremony where the Y6 children were presented with their awards and shared their reflections on their time at St Elizabeth’s.  They also received their much anticipated yearbooks which I am sure they will keep for many years to come.

It was lovely to see so many proud Y6 parents in the hall.  To those parents who are leaving us this year, please do keep in touch and we look forward to contacting you about our St Elizabeth’s Alumni soon.

This week in school

‘Aladdin the Musical’

Last week’s production of Aladdin was a triumph!  The children’s enjoyment clearly shone through in the performances and they were rewarded with standing ovations on both evenings!

Thank you to the KS2 staff team for preparing the production.  Thank you too, to our Y6 parents, for fundraising for the production and to Mrs Kelly and the team of helpers for creating the fantastic scenery and props.

Sports Update from Mr Sagar and Mrs Knowles

Last week, we rounded off a fantastic year of sport at St Elizabeth’s with our ‘Sports Awards Assembly’.

We were delighted to recognise and celebrate every child and team who has represented the school in sport this year. From borough tournaments to friendly fixtures, our pupils have shown dedication, teamwork, and outstanding sportsmanship.

Special congratulations go to our Hockey Team, who were runners-up in the borough tournament, and our Swimming Team, who achieved a 3rd place girls’ shield in the borough gala. Their exceptional performances and commitment earned them the joint title of Team of the Year—a well-deserved recognition!

There was a huge buzz of excitement as we announced the results of this year’s Sports Days. We are thrilled to share that St Josephine Bakhita House (Yellow team) was crowned winner of both the KS1 and KS2 Sports Days!

Finally, we were proud to present the ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ awards to Lily and Colton and to our runners-up, Naomi, Layla, Freddy and Jasper.

Headteachers for the day

Last Wednesday, Tristan, Lucien and Venetia were our ‘Headteachers for the Day’, an experience which they had won in the May Fair raffle.  The children ‘took over’ assembly, holding a quiz where Mrs Diver and I competed against each other with a little help from our ‘phone a friends’.  They then attended a Zoom meeting with our Chair of Governors, they carried out a learning walk around the classes, and they had lunch with the staff in the staffroom.  The children said they felt tired after their busy time but had such good fun!

PTA BBQ

The PTA BBQ was a wonderful evening on Friday.  The event was very well attended and the Y3 parents did a fantastic job of providing delicious food, refreshments and entertainment – thank you!  The BBQ was an ideal opportunity to thank our PTA Committee and members for all their hard work this year in raising funds for the school.  School budgets have never been so tight and so the money raised by the PTA events helps to fund resources for the curriculum and enrich what we can offer our pupils.

The PTA has raised over £35,000 this year – what an outstanding amount to raise for St Elizabeth’s.  On behalf of all the children, staff and governors – Thank you so much!

Y1 and Y2 drama productions

Yesterday the Y1 and Y2 children showed the school their productions of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and ‘Croak’ to the rest of the school.  The children have been rehearsing these plays in their drama lessons with Mrs FitzGerald this term and they did a fantastic job, singing and speaking with great confidence.
