Dear Parents and Carers,
We are entering our busy time of year as we prepare for Christmas, and the school hall is filled with the sound of children singing carols. Please check the dates below for details of our performances and Christmas activities and do keep checking your emails for communications as we approach the end of term.
Our KS1 children had a fantastic time at their disco this afternoon. The staff couldn’t resist joining in the fun and an appearance from Santa made the afternoon extra special. Thank you to the Y5 parents for organising both our KS1 and KS2 discos. We look forward to seeing our older children and parents at the KS2 disco tonight.
This week in school
Y4 Roman Day
The Y4 children looked a little different as they arrived in school on Wednesday dressed in tunics and togas. As part of their ‘Roman Day’ they made replicas of Roman shields and learnt some of the manoeuvres of the Roman army. They also had a go at ‘Roman’ cooking, making pizzas which they shared with parents at the end of the day!
Reconciliation Services
As part of our Advent preparation, we held KS1 and KS2 Reconciliations Services this week. The children were encouraged to reflect on their actions and ask forgiveness for the things they have done wrong as they prepare for Christmas. The Y2 and Y3 children dramatised the parable of the Prodigal Son and explained that this shows God’s unconditional love and forgiveness. Following the service, Mgr Bill, Canon John, Fr Peter and Fr Arulraj came in to school to hear individual Confessions for children in Y5 and Y6. We were delighted to welcome Fr Arulraj, who is new to the parish of St Thomas Aquinas in Ham.
Sports Update from Mr Sagar and Mrs Knowles
On Tuesday, a group of boys from Y4 and Y6 represented the school at the Borough Small Schools 5-a-side football tournament. The team played lots of fast-paced games, scored some great goals and showed excellent teamwork. The boys came third overall, which was a fantastic result. Well played, boys!
The next two weeks in school
Y6 Pilgrimage to St George’s Cathedral – Tuesday 9th December
On Tuesday afternoon Y6 will be attending the Diocesan Schools’ Advent Service at St George’s Cathedral. While there, they will have the opportunity to walk through the Holy Door which is only possible in a Jubilee Year. Y6 parents, please note that children will be arriving at school at around 4pm. If you would like your child to walk home from the station, please email school to let us know this.
Whole School Pantomime – Wednesday 10th December
The whole school will be watching The Wizard Theatre’s production of ‘The Reluctant Dragon’ on Wednesday. If you haven’t already done so, please make your contribution towards the cost of this in Arbor Pay in the payment ‘Christmas Activities and Design & Technology Parental Contribution’.
KS2 Carol Service – 7pm Thursday 11th December
We are looking forward to the Advent Carol Service which is taking place on Thursday 11th December at 7pm. Tickets have been sent home in your KS2 child’s reading packet.

On the evening, children should come to school at 6:30pm wearing smart, clean school uniform including a tie. Children may wear their PE kits to school on this day to help them have a clean uniform for the concert. Entry to the school hall is at 6:45pm and parents will need to show their tickets. There will be a collection for our Advent charity, CAFOD World Gifts after the service. As this is a liturgy, photography is not permitted, however the service will be recorded by school and shared on Google Classroom.

The Y1 and Y2 Nativity will be taking place on Friday 12th December at 10:00am. Children should come into school as normal and parents will be able to enter the hall through the main entrance to the hall at 9:45am. There will be a collection for CAFOD World Gifts after the service.
