Weekly Update 2nd May 2025

Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Summer Term is in full swing and we have enjoyed some beautiful sunny days this week in school.

The May Fair is nearly here…

Our May Fair is only two weeks away and will be taking place on Sunday 18th May from 12 to 4 p.m.  This is always a fantastic event which raises much needed funds for our school.  Please look out for the communications from the PTA regarding donations for the fair and all offers of help on the day are greatly appreciated.

Our team of cyclists are also in their final stages of preparations as they get ready to set off on their fundraising cycle to Guernsey on Friday 16th May.  Do come along and wave the cyclists on their way between 8:30am and 9am and please show your support by making a donation via https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/r2g2025

This week in school

Small Steps visit to assembly

On Monday we welcomed the team from Small Steps to our assembly.  Small Steps is a local charity that provides developmental support for young children with physical disabilities.  Our children were delighted to see some of the resources that have been bought with the money we raised.

Our Pupil Chaplains will be visiting Small Steps to find out more about the great work they do later this term.  Do look out for their stall at the May Fair.

Hair Braiding Workshop

The hair braiding workshop on Tuesday evening was a great success!  Thank you to Mrs Compton for sharing her skills and to Mrs Mottram for being her willing model for the evening.  You can find Mrs Compton and her team of volunteers at the hair braiding stall at the May Fair – this is sure to be popular so get there early!

Sports Assembly

On Tuesday, we had a special assembly led by the Sports Committee.  We heard about some of the sports teams who have represented the school over the last few months. We learnt about the Netball team, who played 8 mini matches as part of the Borough Tournament, the Cricket Club who played a match against one of our academy partner schools, St Osmund's, and finally we celebrated the success of the Swimming Squad, who did amazingly well at the Borough Gala, winning a large number of medals, including gold in the mixed relay and an individual gold for Layla.

In the second part of the assembly, the Sports Committee introduced our Playground Marathon challenge, timed to coincide with the London Marathon. The children learnt some facts about the length of a marathon and the record times for completing it. Did you know the fastest time for running is about the same length of time as from the start of the school day to the end of morning break? As a result, many of the children challenged themselves to run up and down the playground at break times doing their own mini marathon.

Lent Charity final total

Good news!  We raised an amazing £918 for our Lent Charity, The Catholic Children’s Society.  Thank you so much for your generosity and well done to the children for their hard work in their fundraising activities.

Reception Planting

Our Reception children have been busy planting sunflowers this week as part of their topic on ‘Growing’.  They read the story ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ and saw how well Jasper’s beanstalk grew after he realised he had to wait patiently.

The children will wait patiently and observe how their plants grow developing their Maths skills of measuring.  They have also written instructions about how to give their plants what they need to grow.  Thank you very much to the parents who helped the children with the planting!

Next week in school

Piano Concert - Wednesday 7th May – 3:30 p.m. in the school hall

All children who are learning to play the piano in school or at home are invited to perform a piece at the concert on Wednesday.  Children should speak to Mrs FitzGerald about their piece.  All parents and carers are welcome to attend.

VE Day Cream Tea – Thursday 8th May

Come and join us for a Cream Tea to celebrate 80 years since VE Day on Thursday at 3:15pm.

The Y6 parents will be selling tea and scones with jam and cream on the Junior playground.  There will be tables set out along the school driveway and all parents, carers and children are invited to come along.  The proceeds from the cream teas will go towards the Y6 end of year events.  Please can we remind parents that as our school gates will be open at this time, children must be kept under close supervision.
