Weekly Update 9th June 2023

Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...

Dear Parents and Carers,

Borough Sports

This week we welcomed the return of the annual Borough Sports athletic competition where a team of our Y6 pupils competed against young athletes from across Richmond Borough at St Mary’s College, Twickenham.

Our team took part in a number of track and field events and put in some impressive performances. It is a unique experience to participate in such a large competition on a professional track and we are very proud of the children for representing the school so well. The event was attended by the Olympic runner Stephanie Twell.

We are currently waiting for the individual results but we already know that the team came 6th overall in the competition. Huge congratulations go to: Manuela, Ciara, Eloise, Angelica, Mattia, Charlie, Alessandro, Leo and Freddie.

First Holy Communion

Many of our children have received their First Holy Communion or will be receiving it this weekend. We wish the children every blessing at this very special time in their journey in faith. We look forward to celebrating with the children as a school community on our Feast Day on 4th July. More details will be sent to parents soon.

School Cap, Water Bottle and Sunscreen

As the weather has turned warm and sunny, it is essential that your child brings a hat to school with them every day. This can be a school cap or a cap/hat from home (without large logos).

If you wish, you are able to purchase a school cap at the school office. There are two styles of caps: one which covers the back of the neck for Reception and Y1 children and one for Y2 to Y6 children. The cost of a cap is £7, you can pay by cash or cheque made payable to St Elizabeth’s School. Please make sure that your child’s hat is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Please also ensure that your child brings into school with them a water bottle every day. This is essential during warm temperatures, and the children can re-fill their water bottle in school if needed.

Please also apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school each day.

‘Science Week’

Next week is Science Week in school when we encourage children to develop their skills and enthusiasm for scientific enquiry. The theme of the week is ‘Growth’ and all classes will be carrying out Science investigations on the theme of growing. The children have been delighted to see the eggs which arrived this week start to hatch and they will be observing the chicks’ development over the course of the week.

You will have seen from Mrs Sheridan’s ParentMail that we are inviting parents with a scientific background or a job related to Science to come into school to talk to the children, in small groups, in class, or in assembly. Please do contact Mrs Sheridan if you would be able to help. The Eco-Warriors will also be holding a cake sale on Thursday after school.

School Photos

All children in school today have had their individual photographs taken. We will write to parents next week with information on viewing and purchasing photographs.
