Weekly Update 2nd February 2024

Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week in school

Family Ceilidh tonight

We are very much looking forward to the family Ceilidh which starts at 7pm this evening. Entry to the event is through the main school entrance and if you have not yet bought your ticket, there will be a few tickets available to buy on the door. It promises to be a great night! Thank you to the Y6 parents for organising the Ceilidh and to Mrs O’Neill, Mrs Shepherd-Jones and Mr Nelson for the dancing practice.

Y3 Assembly

Y3 led the school in prayers this week with their assembly on the theme of journeys. They explored the different journeys we make and looked especially at our journey through the liturgical year. This will become a focus of our assemblies from next week as we prepare to begin the season of Lent. The children spoke and sang beautifully and left us with the message from the ‘Footprints’ poem that we are never alone as God is with us every step of the way on our journey.

Next week in school

Chaplains’ Bring and Buy Sale – donations of books and toys needed please!

The Pupil Chaplains are organising a Bring and Buy Sale on Tuesday 6th February after school in the school hall. They are asking for all children to bring in a pre-loved toy or book in good condition which will be sold to raise money for ‘Small Steps’, a local charity which supports pre-school children with physical disabilities and their families. All donations should be brought into school on Monday. We look forward to seeing everyone at the sale on Tuesday.

Children’s Mental Health Week Coffee Morning – Tuesday 6th February at 9:00 a.m.

Mrs Compton will be hosting a Coffee Morning for parents on Tuesday 6th February at 9 a.m. in the new Food Technology room. Our link Educational Psychologist will be leading an informal session on children’s mental health and there will be the opportunity to ask questions and share advice. These coffee mornings are open to all parents and are friendly, relaxed and welcoming. Parents who are attending the Sayers Croft meeting in the school hall are welcome to come along afterwards.

Sayers Croft Meeting – Tuesday 6th February 9:00am to 9:30am in the school hall

Y5 parents are invited to come into school on Tuesday morning to hear details of the upcoming residential visit to Sayers Croft. We will share the information by ParentMail after the meeting for those who are unable to attend.

Y6 Cycling Proficiency

Next week is Cycling Proficiency week for Y6. Children will need to bring their bikes into school on Monday and have them in school every day. Children must remember bike locks and helmets and they should wear their PE kit each day.

Parents’ Evening Booking

The Parents’ Evening booking system will ‘go live’ at 5:00pm on Thursday 8th February. Details of how to book an appointment time will be sent by ParentMail next week.

Class Concerts for Reception, Y1 and Y2

Parents and carers of children in Reception, Y1 and Y2 are invited to attend a class concert next week. The concerts take the form of ‘model’ music lessons and Mrs FitzGerald and the children are always delighted to showcase what they have been learning in Music this year.

Information for parents

Achieving for Children has asked schools to recirculate the borough wrap-around-care survey. They are looking at before and after school cares needs across the borough and welcome views of parents in all schools.
